Upcoming Trips

CUZCO, PERU - The ancient Incan capital of Peru, a World Heritage Site, and of course very close to Machu Picchu as well.  Hiking to this city through parts of Peru is on my bucket list so the hope is we'll get to do that soon.

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - As a couple we've touched North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa.  It's time to get to South America.  We've obviously heard great things about Rio so it will be nice to take a look for ourselves.

TROMSO, NORWAY - Planning a big trip to end our run in Europe.  We dug deep into the bucket list for this one and we have decided on a Norway trip that will take us far into the Arctic Circle to go dog sledding, cruising, just kilometres off of the coast of Russia, and chasing the Northern Lights.

IPSWICH, ENGLAND - They are making us go here for work but we are going to make the best of it!  It's always nice to get out of the big cities anyway.

CARDIFF, WALES - Need to sneak a weekend trip in soon to visit our friendly neighbour, Wales.  Possibly see some castles, and hear some interesting accents as well.

PAMPLONA, SPAIN - Okay, it's got to happen.  I'm going to run with these bulls.  If only I could find a way to get out there.  They only run for a week so we're cutting it close.  I also don't own a white outfit and a red scarf yet.  This could be tougher than originally planned.

MALMO, SWEDEN - It turns out that Copenhagen has a huge bridge off it's Western side into Sweden.  There is no way I don't find my way over there for at least a day.  It's apparently the third biggest city in Sweden and I'm being told it's a good time.

COPENHAGEN, DENMARK - Looking for another place to sneak away to.  Somewhere new, somewhere that will be interesting.  It also has to be a place that Jolene won't be mad if she misses.  I listed cities she was okay with ... and somehow snuck this one past her.  (Big Mistake).

Copenhagen Docks

EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND - Mike's parents are in town and while they are here we need to show them around.  While there is no reason that anyone should run out of things to do in London we have planned a trip up to Edinburgh along with a trip to see various castles in the Scottish highlands.  We hope to also catch a glimpse of Sterling and some other battle sites of Robert the Bruce and William Wallace.

SHARM EL SHEIKH/CAIRO, EGYPT - Okay, enough of this messed up world impacting where we travel.  Pyramids are on the bucket list and a beach trip is also long over due as we've now just started to leave the gloomy British winter.  Camel rides in the desert also seem like a must.

HOUSTON/AUSTIN, TEXAS, UNITED STATES - Taking advantage of any time off we can get we've planned a long weekend in Texas.  American Flags, American Food, and gosh darn it ... some real Americans.

PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA, UNITED STATES - Christmas trip to the states will be in Pittsburgh.  Still trying to make sure we can stay for a full week but can't wait to hang out with some real Americans, get some fresh air, and possibly see some snow.  Also planning to rent a car to see if we still know how to drive.

BERLIN, GERMANY - For our December trip, we've decided to visit another part of Mike's heritage.  We are going to celebrate unity as we visit the Berlin Wall that was torn down 22 years ago.

"Ich bin ein Berliner" - JFK

GLASGOW, SCOTLAND - It took me awhile to figure out what we could sneak into the month of November without any time off from work so I looked within the United Kingdom.  It turns out the Lochness monster is basically our neighbor.  It lives north of Glasgow.  Already booked train tickets and a van to go find "Nessie".  That and some bagpipes up in Inverness and we've got ourselves a top shelf weekend.

NEW YORK CITY, UNITED STATES - NYC for Thanksgiving!  Can't wait to get back to the US even if it's for a few days.  USDA beef is what we'll look for first ... then some family.  We already have some dinners and shows planned with the entire family (Mike's side).

DUBLIN, IRELAND - (TRIP COMPLETE: 31-October-2011) Planning a Dublin trip this October!  Should be interesting trying to sneak in and out of the country without missing any work and also enjoying tours that all seem to be paired with a pint of Guinness.

PARIS, FRANCE - Another option that has been mentioned... it's just a question of when to sneak it in is a trip to Paris via the chunnel.  Trying to figure out how to make that happen this November.  Hopefully border control will have a harder time tracking Jolene under water.

Tickets have finally been bought for this trip and we're headed to France mid February.

I vote for Dublin (at least they have Freedom Fries there).

The good news is I think we are going to make both of these trips happen. We'll be celebrating my 1% Irish'ness in just a few days!

You will love Berlin....

We had one of our favorite meals at Zum Topfgucker. You must try a curry wurst. Did you know that when JFK said "Ich bin ein berliner", he was really saying "I am a jelly doughnut"?

In Berlin, you need to look out for the bicycle lane near the sidewalk. The Germans will run over anyone in the lane.

It's not a good sign when the trips we're tracking are now in the US. It's like the world has flipped upside down.
