Nashville - First Guest

Sunday, February 10, 2013

As we finally start to settle into the Nashville area, our final guest in London has become our first guest to see us in the South.  My brother coincidentally had to be down here for a week for work so he extended his trip to join us in touring the city over a long weekend.

We jumped shoulder deep into the music scene with a trip to the Country Music Hall of Fame to see antiques from Elvis, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, and many others.  Jolene's favorite of course was Dolly Parton's scribbled initial lyrics of the song "Jolene" where she used the name of a girl she met at one of her book signings for a new song.  Afterwards we headed over to a bar called Honkey Tonk and we had the band play the song "Jolene" for us to tie the afternoon together.

Later in the day we headed over to Station Inn for some Bluegrass music.  They've got a great setup there and bring in good talent.

We also hit up the local Yazoo Brewery for a tour, hiked Radnor Lake trails (Carolina Wren spotting!), and cheered on when we got the conductor of one of our many trains to blow his horn as he went under the bridge we were walking across.

Who is visiting next?

Living in Nashville, TN

Sunday, February 3, 2013

We've made it back to the States after our trip up North, celebrated the holidays with family in both Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, and now have made the drive South to our new home, Music City.

We've only been here a couple weeks but we've already found an apartment, set it up, and started to see the local area.  With the heart of the city nearby we've gotten a couple chances to see some of the live music, but have also ventured out and gone on a few extended hikes in the nearby state parks.

While things being close have been great, we have come to realize a lot of additional added "perks" that come with living in this new trendy area. We have our own personal train right next door to us that comes through 83 times a day and blows it's whistle as a hello everytime.  We also have some great new neighbors that just moved in above us that may be in the middle of their Vanderbuilt college days.  They seem like a lot of fun with all of their "line dancing" or possibly "human bowling" that goes on at all hours of the night. We hope to introduce ourselves to them soon so we can get in on the fun and competition!
